Statement of Faith
We believe, affirm, and teach the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, the Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and the Nashville Statement on Human Sexuality and Gender.
What We Believe
At Maranatha Baptist Church, our beliefs are grounded in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, a confession of faith that reflects our commitment to the authority of Scripture and the centrality of the gospel. Here’s a summary of the core doctrines we joyfully affirm:
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is our final guide for faith and life, revealing God’s character, His plan of redemption, and how we are to live in relationship with Him and one another.
Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Psalm 119:105, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20–21
We believe in one living and true God, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of all things. God is holy, loving, just, and merciful, and He desires a personal relationship with each of us.
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 6:3, 1 John 4:8
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rose again on the third day. Through His death and resurrection, He offers forgiveness, new life, and eternal hope to all who trust in Him.
Scripture: John 1:1–14, Philippians 2:5–11, Isaiah 53:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3–4, Romans 10:9
We believe the Holy Spirit is present in the world to convict of sin, draw people to Christ, and empower believers for holy living and service. He indwells every believer, giving spiritual gifts and guiding us into truth and godliness.
Scripture: John 14:26, Acts 1:8, Romans 8:9–11, Galatians 5:22–23, 1 Corinthians 12:4–11
We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is a gift from God, not earned by good works. Through repentance and faith in Jesus, we are forgiven, made new, and adopted into God’s family. This salvation is eternal and secure in Christ.
Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–9, Romans 3:23–24, John 3:16, Titus 3:5, Romans 10:13
We believe the church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers. The local church is a community of baptized believers who gather for worship, teaching, fellowship, and mission. We practice two ordinances given by Christ: baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper, both of which are symbolic acts of obedience and remembrance.
Scripture: Acts 2:42–47, 1 Corinthians 12:12–27, Matthew 28:19–20, Romans 6:4, 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
We believe that every believer is called to live a life of holiness, love, and service. As followers of Jesus, we are to grow in our faith, share the gospel, care for one another, and serve our neighbors with compassion and humility.
Scripture: Romans 12:1–2, Galatians 5:13–14, Colossians 3:12–17, James 1:22, Micah 6:8
We believe that Jesus has called His church to make disciples of all nations. This mission begins in our own community and extends to the ends of the earth. We are committed to sharing the good news of Jesus and equipping believers to live out their faith in everyday life.
Scripture: Matthew 28:18–20, Acts 1:8, Romans 10:14–15, 2 Corinthians 5:20
We believe that every Christian is called to live out the gospel in every area of life with love, justice, and integrity. As followers of Christ, we are to oppose all forms of sin and injustice, including racism, greed, and sexual immorality. We affirm the sanctity of all human life and the biblical standard of sexual morality. God created humanity as male and female, and we believe that gender is a good gift from God, rooted in biological sex. Sexual intimacy is a gift to be enjoyed within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman.
Scripture: Micah 6:8, Matthew 5:13–16, Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, Genesis 1:27, Hebrews 13:4
We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for life. It is the God-ordained context for sexual intimacy, procreation, and the nurturing of children. Husbands and wives are equal in value, created in God’s image, and called to distinct roles that reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church. Parents are to raise their children in the nurture and instruction of the Lord, modeling godliness and love.
Scripture: Genesis 2:18–24, Ephesians 5:22–33, Colossians 3:18–21, Deuteronomy 6:6–7, Hebrews 13:4
We believe that Jesus will return one day to judge the living and the dead and to establish His eternal kingdom. Those who have trusted in Him will live forever in His presence, while those who have rejected Him will be separated from God. This hope motivates us to live with purpose and urgency.
Scripture: John 14:1–3, 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Revelation 21:1–4, Matthew 25:31–46, 2 Peter 3:10–13
